Sneak peek : Sam & Crystal

September 29, 2011

Just got back from the Dominican, where I realized all the Spanish I’ve learned was from TV shows such as Gilmore Girls and The Office. Don’t hate, ok. Some of the staff complimented me on my Spanish :P

Here’s a little preview of what’s to come:

New York, New York

September 1, 2011

Side note: I’ve FINALLY found a plugin that will batch insert pictures instead of having to do it one at a time. Seriously, WordPress. Seriously.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

A few of my fun food-loving friends and I flew to New York the weekend before Hurricane Irene hit. I mention that we flew because oh, it came back to bite us on our way home. But other than that hiccup, the rest of the trip was so much fun. Good food and good company always go well together.

Our view of the Toronto skyline from our seats.

The first thing to cross off our to-see list: Madison Square Garden (That is all we saw of it)

Rickshaw Dumpling Bar. Yumm
Top-right: Black sesame covered chocolate dumpling
Bottom-left: Peking duck dumpling

Should’ve rode this back home. Would’ve been faster than trying to catch a flight home. AND you’ll have good food to eat :)

Nobu. I don’t even remember what we ate but it was all so good.

MoMA

Photobomb

The pretzel that changed everything.

Shopping cart at Eataly

The new World Trade Center

Spot the tour guide.

Wall Street

Fun at the NBC store

Bouchon Bakery = Cork Bakery

Times Square

Late night meal at Juniors Cheesecake

New Grimaldi’s location. We each had half a pizza.

$11,000 coffee machine. Each.
Starbucks bought the company so it’s hard to find one of these now.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, starring Daniel Radcliffe. Such a good show. No, this isn’t the one where he’s naked.
(I was glad I brought the point and shoot because they wouldn’t allow bigger cameras in. They actually locked them up in a locker)

Post-show meal: Shake Shack!

Carnagie Deli for some late night cheesecake

Getting ready to see Cirque: Zarkana

Inside Radio City

Last meal in New York. We bought a Groupon for this. We had to go.

At Newark. Smiling before we knew what was coming. Cancelled flight, bad service from Continental and sleeping at the airport. On chairs. In the food court.

We put ourselves on standby and all got a seat on the same flight! :D

SO happy to be home!

California gurls are unforgettable: Day 7 Snapshots

June 2, 2011

So our trip got extended…thanks to bad weather which led to a cancelled flight. We stayed overnight in a hotel outside of Detroit and were given meal vouchers. We asked for 4 rooms with king-sized beds :)

Late night snacks on our last night in LA

Waiting for our airport shuttle to take us to our layover hotel

We were each given toiletry kits that came with a t-shirt…

SkyTeam! (backwards!)

We were excited for our final flight home because 1) we were finally going home and 2) we were flying first class!
We hung out in the first class lounge, ate some food, had some drinks, then got on our 40min flight home :)

* * *

Much thanks to E/Q/A for a super fun trip! We ate a lot and laughed even more :) Thanks for the memories, SkyTeam!

California gurls are unforgettable: Day 5-6 Snapshots

May 22, 2011

So we should’ve been home by now but our journey home took a little detour (lightning/thunder took out power in the Minneapolis airport so our flight got cancelled) so we’re currently staying overnight in Detroit (Romulus, to be exact). Oh well…we get a free night’s stay in a hotel with 2 meal vouchers. We decided to all get our own room, each with a king bed…because, why not right? :)

As you can tell, we ate a lot. We would eat at once place, then drive to another place to eat some more. We would try to plan another activity in between (museum, shopping..) but with so many good places to eat, we wanted to fit everything into our schedule.

Day 5

Rebel Bite food truck: I LOVE grilled cheese

Food truck! Lobster sandwich..mm

Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles (I think we ate here shortly after eating at the food trucks above)

A walk along the Santa Monica pier and beach
Right: HIMYM, anyone?

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)
Left: Graffiti art on subway trains
Top-right: LV purse, graffiti style
Bottom-right: Banksy

Bottom-right: Hansen’s Cakes…where Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom got their wedding cake (there’s a picture of them in the store window)

Delicious ramen (I’m not really a ramen person but I quite enjoyed this place)

Day 6

More food from food trucks!
We tasted goodness from the NomNom truck and Tempura truck

Next up, Getty museum (free admission!)

Beautiful architecture

Sapp – Thai boat noodles. SO good!

My favourite dish from this place

Left: Thai iced tea…mmm refreshing

Shin Sen Gumi (an izakaya kind of place). Everyone who worked there was super nice!

California gurls are unforgettable: Day 1-4 Snapshots

May 20, 2011

Hello from California! It’s sunny here but apparently, small patches of clouds renders the day “cloudy”. Anyway, the weather is pleasant…not as hot as we wanted but that’s ok, as long as it’s not raining/pouring, we’re happy.

I was hoping to do a daily highlights reel of this trip but it is now day 4. Apologies.

Here’s a really quick recap of what we’ve done the last 4 days minus day 3 which will get a post itself. Ok so here goes:

Day 1
After a 7-hour adventure (with a layover in Minneapolis), we arrived in LA!

Father’s Office: burger + fries + salad = delicious

Monte Alban: Mexican food, grasshoppers

Other places: Santa Monica

Day 2

In-n-Out

Food truck

La Brea Tar Pits

Kodak Theatre, Hollywood

Day 3
Workshop (more to come)

Day 4

Warner Brothers tour! (Can you identify which set appeared in which movie/tv show?)

Umami burger

Griffiths Observatory

A little shopping

Jitlada

Other stuff: Scoops (crazy flavours!), Melrose

These are just snapshots of our trip and not even the best ones :P And I’m not even kidding when I say we ate a lot. More to come!
