Birthday Reminder

This year, there was no rain on my birthday. Instead, it was warm and sunny with a touch of humidity. I took a picture so I wouldn’t forget.
Anyway, I’m off to Punta Cana!

Side note: I’ve FINALLY found a plugin that will batch insert pictures instead of having to do it one at a time. Seriously, WordPress. Seriously.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
A few of my fun food-loving friends and I flew to New York the weekend before Hurricane Irene hit. I mention that we flew because oh, it came back to bite us on our way home. But other than that hiccup, the rest of the trip was so much fun. Good food and good company always go well together.

Our view of the Toronto skyline from our seats.

The first thing to cross off our to-see list: Madison Square Garden (That is all we saw of it)

Rickshaw Dumpling Bar. Yumm
Top-right: Black sesame covered chocolate dumpling
Bottom-left: Peking duck dumpling

Should’ve rode this back home. Would’ve been faster than trying to catch a flight home. AND you’ll have good food to eat

Nobu. I don’t even remember what we ate but it was all so good.

MoMA

The pretzel that changed everything.

Late night meal at Juniors Cheesecake

New Grimaldi’s location. We each had half a pizza.

$11,000 coffee machine. Each.
Starbucks bought the company so it’s hard to find one of these now.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, starring Daniel Radcliffe. Such a good show. No, this isn’t the one where he’s naked.
(I was glad I brought the point and shoot because they wouldn’t allow bigger cameras in. They actually locked them up in a locker)

Post-show meal: Shake Shack!

Carnagie Deli for some late night cheesecake

Getting ready to see Cirque: Zarkana

Inside Radio City

Last meal in New York. We bought a Groupon for this. We had to go.

At Newark. Smiling before we knew what was coming. Cancelled flight, bad service from Continental and sleeping at the airport. On chairs. In the food court.

We put ourselves on standby and all got a seat on the same flight!

SO happy to be home!
[Bonus points if you knew the Sunsets and Sushi reference]
It was the perfect sunny day and we spontaneously decided to shoot for fun because those days don’t come by often in Toronto. Cloudless and humidless days are precious in our 2-month summers. I wish i was kidding.
I wanted to find an abandoned farm and a field with tall unkempt grass. And up on a hill. You know, so we get as much as we could from the sunset. We drove to the edge of Richmond Hill then kept driving. We ended up in Aurora where an abandoned house sat alone, surrounded by grass and trees. The gravel road didn’t lead up to the house so we hopped out of the car and worked it out right there.

So if you’re too school for cool…

Nerds or hipsters?

We tried out Mi-Ne sushi‘s new location in Aurora. Mmm the sushi rolls were so good. Portions were big and the fish was fresh.

The best way to celebrate a long weekend is to eat a variety of good food. Yesterday: ribfest. Today: Food truck festival.
I’m off to Boston for the next couple days where I’m sure we’ll be enjoying even more good food
Let me know if you have food or touristy recommendations!

Food Truck Festival

Bottom left: Lobster sandwich…tastes like coleslaw..
Bottom right: We lined up for 2 hours for that apple grilled cheese. Worth it? Not so much (but I still love grilled cheese)
