The Centre for Dreams
July 11, 2010It’s been a crazy 2 weeks so I’m finally wrapping up all the photos I’ve taken. I’ve got a few posts lined up this week but I’m determined to get this one out tonight!
Two weeks ago, Ming (Justin) invited me to take photos for the members of The Centre for Dreams which is “a day program dedicated to providing a curriculum designed specifically for adults with intellectual challenges.”
What is inspiring is the background behind Dreams. It was started by Elaine Vollett who is a mother of an intellectually challenged adult so she experienced firsthand the difficulties of finding a proper day program for her son. The centre opened in 1991 with 3 members and has now grown to over 25 members and a full time staff and volunteers.
Before we started the shoot, the members got dressed up and some even got their hair done by Ming! A few of them were totally ready to have their photos taken. They were so friendly and their smiles were so genuine. It just made my day
When I get the ok, I’ll post a photo or two from the photoshoot
